Layers Problem with CAD Files

Hello everybody. I'm having a problem with CAD files in SketchUp. At first I though it was the CAD file I was using, but after trying to import the .dwg file from Podcast Video 20, I realized it isn't just my file.

When importing a CAD file, it seems as though some layers don't come along with the file. I guess the easiest way to see this is to see a screenshot of my project. http://i31.tinypic.com/2vsrde8.jpg

As you can see, parts of the main porch are missing. In some of my .dwg files, it looks even worse as parts of the wall are missing. I've tried importing the CAD files on two different machines (both using the free Sketchup and XP Pro) but I have the same problem. Can somebody please advise me what to do to fix my problem? Thank you,

 RobSmile

Hi Rob,

A bit more info might be able to help us try to replicate the problem on our end.

What settings are you selecting when importing CAD Files. You can check by clicking on the 'Options' button in the File Import dialog window.

At first I selected all of the checkboxes as demonstrated in the video podcast. After that didn't work properly, I tried all the combinations of check/unchecked and still the problem remains. I just can't for the life of me figure out why. Does it have anything to do with using the free version of Sketchup?

 Hi Rob

I have encountered similar problems.

I have used a bunch of dwg files, and have come to the conclusion that this just happens. I havent imported one yet that was completely intact.

Also sometimes there are stray lines just assigned to different layers, and the layers sometimes come into sketchup turned off.

I just wrestled with one yesterdaywhere I couldnt get the shadows to render in the position i wanted. After Hours of clicking and sliding every setting in sketchup, I found a layer(turned off) that must have had the default North position on it. Deleted that layer and bam, evreything worked.

Check for turned off layers

Hope this helps

sincerely
