Exporting Image from Google Earth

When I export an image site from goole earth the image comes into Sketchup scud to the axes. Is there something causing this or is that normal. Makes it very hard to start modeling off of the terrain when in this position.

cad applications

I am a new user of Sketchup but am finding it increasingly helpful. I use Autocad on a work PC but after recently buying a MacBook Pro I am looking at CAD software for the Mac. Can any other forum members recommend a good CAD package for the Mac that might work in a similar way to Autocad (but not at the same cost!!). Also, I have seen a couple of comments regarding rendering packages - what is a good one for a novice renderer to use...? My background is property development and so the ability to create accurate and photo-realistic buildings would be very beneficial. I hope to hear from you, much more experienced users out there. Thanks Jonathan (England)

Animations

One problem I'm having is the time it takes on my computer to render an animation. My last one, of a shopping center, took 50 hours to render! I had a lot of cars on the parking lot but not so many trees, and I didn't go crazy on detailing the buildings. The total file size in Sketchup was 9,268KB, and the video clip it generated was 469,467KB. Am I doing something wrong or it could just be my computer that is not adequate for this type of work? Thanks

Hello guys, I leave in Germany and I need help please. I want to make a terrain model in Sketch up, which has a lot of mountains and also a river. Is it possible to make a real model using only countour lines and the river lines which I have available as CAD file? Or which data do I need? I have read that some people use GIS data. I already see two tutorials from the sandbox using an image, but I would like to know how possible is to do it using GIS data. I hope you can help me, thank you in advance. Tania

Layers Problem with CAD Files

Hello everybody. I'm having a problem with CAD files in SketchUp. At first I though it was the CAD file I was using, but after trying to import the .dwg file from Podcast Video 20, I realized it isn't just my file. When importing a CAD file, it seems as though some layers don't come along with the file. I guess the easiest way to see this is to see a screenshot of my project. http://i31.tinypic.com/2vsrde8.jpg As you can see, parts of the main porch are missing. In some of my .dwg files, it looks even worse as parts of the wall are missing. I've tried importing the CAD files on two different machines (both using the free Sketchup and XP Pro) but I have the same problem. Can somebody please advise me what to do to fix my problem? Thank you, Rob

Genetica for seamless textures

Hi Mike, have just seen the latest tutorial about making textures using Photoshop. I stumbled across a program a couple of years ago called Genetica that has a huge array of sample textures as well as the ability to make something from scratch. I purchased the full version, however there is also a free version called "Wood Workshop" which is also very useful. Both versions can be found at www.spiralgraphics.biz.

Hey guys I've been looking into different apps to go with sketchup, and its all a bit overwhelming. Do you have any experience with cs3 ex.? If I bought that, would I still need a rendering app. like Podium? Is Maxwell Render worth the extra $$$? Is cs3 ex. worth it? I'm mostly going to be doing Architectural renderings and models. I value any advice you could give. Thanks again and Happy Holidays Pat Logue Kingfisher Studio

SketchUp and 3DS Max

When exporting a 3D house into 3DS Max, it all looks ok until you view the UVW mapping. It's a dog's breakfast! If you then want to export that model to RFactor as a scenery model for a racing track, the textures are totally stuffed. Does anyone know if it is indeed possible to use a SU textured model this way? Or is it better to go through the tedious task of texturing in max only?

Hi All, Any thoughts on the best way to get smooth animations to show clients. I have size set to 640 and frames set to 24 but am a bit in the dark regarding the compression. Some seem to work better than others (I end up using the Intel Indeo R3.2) but I don't quite get what the differences are. Is there one online that I should download and install instead? Any other suggestions on animation files? Thanks
