Hey Dwight,

do you have SketchUp Pro? If so - you might give Layout a shot for printing your SKP files to scale.

if you just want to print directly from SKP, make sure that the Perspective View mode is turned off, and make sure your in Plan view.

For the Perspective part - go up to Camera > Parallel Projection.

Once you've got that all sorted, On a Mac - you can go to File > Document Setup, and you can set the scale for Printing. Then Print.

On a PC, its been a while, but from what i remember i think you'll see print scale options in the print dialog window when you have the model set to Parallel Projection view mode.

You don't need pro to print straight from SketchUp at scale. And the instructions up above should work for getting that to happen.

i went back to the SKP website just to double check and i also found this help center article with pretty pictures and everything:

SketchUp Pro comes bundled with an additional program called Layout which helps make it easier to get your SketchUp models arranged on sheets at different scales so that you can put together printed presentations.

ok well what about this..

I dont want to go to another program...

If I draw a legend?    Four 1' lines at the bottom of my drawing

and then take it to the printer and have it enlarged while printing so then 1" = 1' or  1/2" = 1'

that would work correct?

i guess so, sure. but these instructions are for printing to 1" or 1/2" scale directly from SKP to your own printer/plotter.

http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=36227

did you give that a shot yet? is it not working?

If I set it to 1/2" = 1'   on a plan of the model that is
nearly 20' tall.......  oh wait a minute...
it says the scale is from drawing to model....
If I want to print out a site plan...    I can't do it?
I would like to print out a 8.5" x 11" piece of paper or save it as a .pdf
and take that to my printer and blow it up to something that can be unrolled on a table...  and
we can build from it....   I would like 1" in the model to equal 1' on the print ....
is that possible?   I don't understand the   "IN DRAWING  to IN MODEL"  thing..
thanks for any help

'In Drawing' refers to the size of the object when it's printed, to scale, on paper.

'In Model' refers to the size of the object in the SketchUp model (real life).

i guess you could exchange the words to read "ON PAPER to IN SKETCHUP". whether that makes more sense, i dunno?

basically, the point is for the scale convention of 1/2"=1' or 1"=1' to remain in tact.

in your case, if you say that 1/2" in drawing = 1' in model, then your 20' tall model should print out to be roughly 10" tall.

if you'd prefer to print the entire site plan drawing onto an 8.5 x 11 sheet (using the 'scale to fit' option) and take that to the printer to have them scale it, i suppose that would work too.
