I realize this is The Sketchup Show, but now that we have a model from Sketchup in Google Earth, it would be nice to go over the process of making it a movie that can place easily in a presentation, especially now that the movie making feature is no additional charge with our professional license of Google Earth. I’ve done this myself, but I’m sure you guys could show us more than I’ve been able to discover on my own. A few things you may want to cover:
- following a predefined path drawn in Google Earth
- using a series of place marks instead
- hiding either the path or the bookmarks for the movie
- touring options
- the 2 gig limit, and how to avoid it!
- all the movie making options and what they do
- file output options, advantages and disadvantages
Oh, and one more topic, how to export Google Earth 3D models to Sketchup.
mg,
thanks for the feedback. as you know, there is so much to show in google earth that we would be hard pressed to cover it all in 10 min segments. we are in the process of producing a full length training DVD for the sketchup/google earth interoperability workflow that will be sure to cover all the topics you've listed and more, including:
- using the 3D warehouse to post and share your models with google earth
- how to create your own network link
- how to optimize your SKP files for viewing in GE
- how to create and customize interactive KML tags for GE
- image overlays in GE
- why go pro?
- GPS integration
- etc.....
as for getting models from GE to SKP, as far as i know, the only 3D GE stuff you can download are the buildings that are the buildings that are posted through the 3D warehouse (which you can download here: http://earth.google.com/3d.html). all those other white boxes that you see when you click on the '3D buildings' button are copy protected. if anyone's figured out a way to hack it, please feel free to share with the rest of us : )
