Do U have a good tutorial on layers , outliner & scenes? I don't really understand it. Do u use one or the other or both at the same time? One problem I have is how to get things on a layer. It says I have to work on layer 1 so how do I get things on another layer? & sometimes it changes the things I've done . I understand that what I do on one layer affects the other.

photo matching

I'm trying to use SU as a photogrametry tool to model historic buildings. Some more guidance on photomatching in 3 dimensions would be great, how to add images taken from different view points to the model. Cant say how much I enjoy learning the programme with the videos, even though some dont seem to stream out here to Barcelona.

puffy cushion couch or bed tutorial?

I would really like you guys to do a tutorial where you make a curved sofa with down filled cushions - or bed with a soft comforter and pillows. I just don't know how to get SketchUp to work for me in this kind of application. I would especially like to be able to find the path around a soft pillow so you could use the follow-me tool for the piping. I have learned so much from your tutorials, but I'm an Interior Designer and could love ways to make interiors look more realistic. Pillows, drapes, upolstory, pillows etc. all help make the interior look more realistic. Plus all those elements will be part of our design specifications.

Array along an arc

Sorry if this has been covered! I am trying to model a stucture of a barrel vaulted roof. This will consist of curved glulam beams forming a curve, with wooden I-beams hung from them at 400mm centres. I have modelled it on sketchup, but couldn't find a way to duplicate the Ibeams along the glulam curve. I tried using the rotate tool to do it; the problem is that the arc has no real center, and subsequesntly the i-beams duplicate in a circle rather than an arc. Any ideas on how to duplicate along an arc, at regular spacing, and perpendicular to the arc?

Hi everybody, I'm new around here, and I think your podcasts are really great! I just had a little problem with the whirlpool series (20-25, I believe), as well as a few others. When I play the podcasts, they are really glitchy and slow. Most of them work fine but I was wondering if anyone had the same problem, and more importantly, how do you fix it?
Hello guys, i would firstly like to say thankyou for a great series of podcasts and a very informative website. Being a SU user for sometime already i still found some extra tips i was unaware of. Lastly my personal interest lies in improving and exporting smooth animations along with using Artlantis render so perhaps you will cover them in future episodes. Congratulations for your work so far. Mr S.F Edwards B.A. (arch)

episode #38

Not to be too much of a pain in the neck, but in my opinion the spiral staircase that alex provided us with will not work. I faced it a number of times in my own projects. Got to solve it real quick. Point is that there is no height for anyone to climb all the way up going under the loft/mezzanine floor. My suggestion for the case is to rotate the staircase by 90 degrees, and make the highest tread a square or a platform-like tread that can allow a 7 feet minimum height under the loft.

Video suggestion: Create materials

Hi all, How about a video that covers how to create a texture from scratch. A scale specific texture, such as concrete masonry units or brick. Take it from finding and selecting a texture image (such as the Acme brick website), to fine tuning the image for importing into SU, to applying the texture in SU, to saving it as a skm file, to verifying that it's scaled correctly (and how to fix problems). I am having difficulty creating new textures that scale properly and they also don't save as skm's correctly either, again the scale is messed up. I'm also not sure about the best way to prep the image for importing into SU. (To many unanswered questions or the answers received create additional troubles.) Just an idea. m

Episode 38

Mike and I had a little debate over the best way to create a spiral staircase the other week, and I thought I had come up with a pretty efficient method. But I have to admit, he showed me how he's been creating spiral stairs and I was very impressed - much better method than mine. You can check out his method in our latest episode of The Sketchup Show - Watch Episode #38 So I ask you all - do you have a cool method that you would like to share here? How does Mike's method compare to yours? We always love to hear your feedback and have you share your SketchUp expertise with others.

last night: printing again and again

Printing is still a problem. Though I have the pro version and though I studied the faq sketchup-show. Some styles are not really printable. For example the "Blue" style is much to dark. If I choose the "Brown" style and print, the picture is printed without the brown background... The best achievement I got with screenshot to tiff and then with photoshop. But this is not really a fast workflow. Do you think, the fastest way is to print with layout? Thank you for your very good work. Tino

For Google SketchUp Pro 6 users, there is a program hiding inside SketchUp called LayOut. We've previously released an introductory podcast about LayOut, and we're following up with a part 2. If you've ever needed to create presentation documents for your SketchUp models, LayOut is definitely worth a look. Take a look at episode #32 when you get a chance.

I am new to Sketchup and was very happy to find the School podcast. The videos have helped me greatly in learning SU. I always assumed that School was a part of Google but after reading some old post I'm not sure. Mike and Alex, if Google doesn't sponser your podcast then they should.
Fantastic Videos!

I just watched all your videos this evening, except for the two from the exposition. I learned more in those few hours than I've ever learned before. They are so clear and easy to follow. The old version 5 Sketchup videos by @Last were paced too fast, it was hard to tell what tool was being used or even the steps involved in it's use. Google should fund your efforts :-) Sketchup basics are relatively easy to learn and use but there are so many tools that are meaningless unless you actually see them in use. I've avoided the protractor tool because it was so confusing and have never used the scale tool. And what was a Ruby? But now they seem more user friendly. Please keep up the good work. Thanks. maalox
