After watching the episode on stairs, I was wondering if there was any way to make a spiral ramp.  Is that possible?

it is possible. a couple ways to do it.

one way to do it is to draw the sections of the ramp in much the same way that i drew the path for the handrail. once the steps are in place, you can edit the treads to form a ramp. check out this skp file that i uploaded to the 3D Warehouse:
